Chameleon

I Viewed Chameleon whilst I was in Brighton. In the gallery there was about 8 different faces spread throughout the room on projectors.

The concept of the idea was that the person on the screen copied your moods and emotions so if I was sad the person on screen would do an impression of how I feel and look.

The craft involved was using projector screens hanging around the room with a
sensor on the side so it could help the person on screen copy your mood and react in the correct way.

Muto

Muto was created by Blu this video is created by using stop frame animation. The concept to the video is rebirth everything keeps dying and coming back to life its a constant cycle in life. There was a lot of craft behind this video because there was a lot of painting and taking pictures involved This video would have taken a long time to create.

Doll Face - Andy Huang

Doll Face's concept was that the doll wanted to be more and more like the person she saw on the television because it made her feel more confident. As the TV moved away she came out of her box some more. I Think this is a good way to show that most girls today are controlled by the media and how we want to be like the girls on TV. The craft is that it was created by computer animation.

Chapter Two

All the videos that I have viewed involve a lot of technology for example Muto created by Blu. This video used a lot of stop frame animation to create. Also Doll Face created by Andy Huang used computerised animation. Both videos would have taken a lot of time to created because they are bot quite complicated to create. Muto was painting and taking pictures where as Doll Face was taking pictures but using a computerised doll image.
Girl Chewing Gum created by John Smith in 1976. John Smith used basic equipment for this video. He only used a camera and then later on added a voice over. In 1976 technology like that was quite modern to them but to us it's classed as old but just because the technology is older doesn't change the meaning of the video.

Chapter Three

I have viewed many video's and I have noticed that not all the video's have a narrative for example when I went the Tate Modern Art Gallery I viewed a video called Material Gestures created by Paul McCarthy. The video was clearly a non narrative because I was able to drop in whenever I wanted and view the video because there wasn't really and structure or point to the video there was no order to the video it just started and finished.
Where as when I watched Girl Chewing Gum by John Smith I noticed his clip had a good narrative because there was a beginning, middle and end to the video. This gave me no choice but to watch the whole of the video because otherwise the film wouldn't have made any sense if I was to just watched parts of the video.

Chapter One

I have recently viewed three videos Doll Face by Andy Huang, Girl Chewing Gum by John Smith and koyaanisqatsi by Godfrey Reggio.
Girl Chewing Gum doesn't use a lot of technology its just camera and later on a voice over is added and in girl chewing gum its just a camera. Both video's have a similar concepts because there both about how the media influence people. Doll face is about how a pretty face on the TV causes people to be brain washed and want to be the same. Girl Chewing Gum is how the guy in the video made up that a man had robbed the local post office knowing that he hadn't but its causes us to believe what he says.
Girl Chewing Gum and Koyaanisqatsi a both very different because Girl Chewing Gum is a very old video and didn't take a lot of time or effort to make but when the film was created the technology to them at the time wasn't considered old where was koyaanisqatsi involved a lot of camera work and they used helicopter to show the buildings collapsing. Koyaanisqatsi was recently made where as Girl Chewing Gum is an old video so its also a difference between new and old. Ones in black and white and the other is in colour this helps to show the difference in time.

Chapter Six

When an audience view a piece of art they all tend to have their own different interpretation. For example some people might be shocked from what they have just seen or they can find it funny and something to talk about or maybe even be inspired by the piece of art. When I went to the Tate Modern art gallery I viewed a piece of art work created Paul McCarthy called material gestures there was a group of people in the room and within the group the reactions were so different. I found it very indecent but it was quite comical to watch i noticed a lot of people were very concentrated and very intrigued by the video. The video was very unique because I had never seen a piece of art before with a man torturing himself. after I viewed some of the video I noticed a lot of the people that had viewed this were very shocked as well as amused by the video, where as some people took it very seriously.
Artists tend to create their piece of art with either one or more meanings to the piece. It's mainly made with one because then the audience will all have a different opinion and view on the piece of art and not all just have the same idea its good for an audience to do this because it makes the art more interesting. And if you were to get a group together it wouldn't all be the same thing discussed it would be a different range of ideas and opinions. I don't think its important for a piece of art to have an interpretation because normally the audience all have their own view on the piece of art.

Gisele Kerozene-Jan Kounen

Gisele Kerozene was directed by Jan Kounen the film was about three male transvestites on broom sticks flying around Paris in France. The video was very different to what I have watched before there wasn't really a concept to the video. I didn't really understand the point of it, I just found it quite comical. There is a lot of craft to the video because there was a lot of stop frame animation so the video would have taken a lot of time to create.
